Just a quick note from us to you. We’ve been soooo busy since our last post and wanted to point out, since we had a spare minute, the update to our work section. We also wanted to write a quick note to acknowledge our past and current clients. Everyone we’ve worked with has been so great!

We’re working on 3 major projects right now and are very excited to present the new sites we’re working on! But as they say, all good things come to those who wait … so for now we’re keeping our heads buried in our work. CoffeeGeek is a well establish source of information for all things coffee. intermission* has been contracted to do a redesign of the website. We’re looking forward to creating a simpler experience for the user.

The best part about it, well besides the content, is that when it comes to the hardcore development we get to hand it off to the CoffeeGeek development team and they will pop it into their custom Content Management System … cool!

This project will be rolled out in phases, because the site is huge, so we’ll post updates here on our blog.

Inspiration can come at times when you don’t expect it … or accidentally … or surprisingly. I was taking pictures of shadow puppets and then previewed the results on my camera. I was thrilled with what I saw. The colours (not the purple and yellow of the photo above – I had some fun with that one) were amazing.

The skin tones where eerie, and the bright light in the background reminded me of something David Lynch (oh yeah, we’re deep into Twin Peaks right now!).

Ideas can either be used right away or if you’re lucky you have a back log of ideas that are filed away somewhere either physically or digitally. I think we have enough stored away to do us for a while … the challenge is picking which project suits the idea and which idea suits the project!

My interest in the web started in 1994 when I was 13. My eighth grade computer teacher told me about a bunch of computers connected together through a network called the Internet. I started learning html that day, I was hand coding my first website by the end of that week. Things have changed since that eighth grade class, I’ve since graduated from the Electronic Media Design Program at Langara College and had the time to realize on a daily basis that there’s nothing I love more than what I do…on a daily basis. My time before Intermission* was spent in an interactive agency environment as well as working on diverse freelance projects in both print and online.

I like an intelligent and subtle order in the projects I create. If it’s web based I want it to load fast and respond to the user in an intuitive way. If it’s in print I want the aesthetic to be a simple, attractive reflection of the communication. Whatever the project, I want it to grow, change, and evolve naturally. I have experience creating engaging social networks, observing user patterns, designing both small and large scale websites, and optimizing monetization, SEO, and SEM.
I believe that effective communication lies in the melding of ideals. I take my influences from original movements and styles and then add my individual interpretation. I believe that a designer’s reference and starting point is every bit as important as their ability.

Hi, I’m Jodi, the other half of intermission*. I love my work, my bike, and mi amigos. Sometimes I call my friend Cory in Portland and we pretend we know Spanish. We have a few solid phrases and they can keep us entertained for a half hour or so. I love coffee, Stumptown specifically. If you’re ever in Seattle or Portland then find a location and have yourself a cup of heaven.

While I’m not a fan of regular television, I can get suckered in to entire seasons on DVD. I recently watched all of Twin Peaks, and am now on to Dexter and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I started buying groceries and cooking instead of eating out for every meal. I like it. I discovered that I can cook. I also discovered that an entire wheel of brie is the same price as two small triangles of it. It’s pretty badass to take out a wheel of cheese when there is company over.

I like getting out of the city. I once sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to France on a yacht and decided to stay for 5 months. I loved it there. I also lived in SoCal for a short time….I didn’t like it there so much. I see myself here in Vancouver for a while. I have a great job, great apartment, great friends, and there is a wheel of brie in my fridge. Awesome.

The Scrap-It Program is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality by getting older vehicles off the road.

The Program offers qualifying vehicle owners incentives to scrap their older vehicle. Incentives such as money towards the purchase of a new vehicle, 28 months of Translink bus passes, $1,200 towards the purchase of a new bike, or $1000 credit at Zipcar or the Co-op Auto Network.

To qualify for this amazing program you must own and currently operate a 1995 or older car or light-duty truck, have insured your vehicle for the last 12 months continuously in British Columbia, and your vehicle must be in driving condition.

It’s expected the program will scrap between 10,000-20,000 older vehicles over the next three years. If an average of three tonnes a year of CO2 is secured from 15,000 scrapped vehicles for a three-year remaining life, it would reduce CO2 emissions in B.C. by an estimated 135,000 tonnes.

We heard about the program from our friend Benny who recently brought in his 1986 van and purchased a new bike.

Uh-oh, we did it again! We just launched the new iphone version of our site. We’re extremely excited about our orientation based navigation system (which works as in the picture above) as well as integrating Apple’s touch “flick” scrolling to our work section. We have to admit that this was a bit of a challenge – but now that we’ve done it once we know we can do it again and again in a fraction of the time.

In this day and age of mobile browsing a company/business/enterprise has to have mobile specific representation of their brand on the web. The iphone’s version of Safari boasts the most advanced CSS3 capabilities and thus intermission* believes the iphone is the leading proponent for mobile technology.

If a user visits our site on their iphone,  it immediately redirects them to the sub-domain where our iphone specific site is located. This is obviously nice because the user doesn’t need to take any extra steps to enjoy a site that’s optimized for their device.
